Ronald
A. Evans is dean of the School of Hotel and Restaurant management at Northern
Arizona University. He was appointed to this position in 1998. Prior
to his current appointment, Evans served for eighteen years as
President and Chief Executive Officer of Best Western International, Inc., the
largest association of independently owned hotels, motor inns, and resorts in
the world. Before
this, he served as Vice President of Finance for Best Western and
Vice President of B-W Financial Services, Inc., a subsidiary company of Best
Western. From
1976 to 1979, he served as President of Evans Management Services,
Inc., in Scottsdale, Arizona. From 1973 to 1976, he served as Vice President of
First Federal Savings in Phoenix, Arizona, and President of its subsidiary First
Service Data Corporation. From 1969 to 1973, he served as Vice President of the
Health Care Division of Electronic Data Systems in Dallas, Texas. Evans
received a bachelor of science degree in management from Arizona
State University in 1963. Following his graduation, he served as an officer in
the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1966. Evans
currently serves on the Tourism Commission of the City of Flagstaff,
Arizona, and on the Board of Directors of the National Rural Tourism Development
Foundation for the United States Department of Commerce. He also serves on the
Governmental Affairs Committee of the American Hotel and Motel Association
(AH&MA), and as a trustee and member of the executive committee of the
AH&MA’s Educational Institute. He holds the prestigious Certified Hotel
Administrator (CHA) designation from the Educational Institute. In 1993, he was
named to the Arizona State University, College of Business Hall of Fame. In
1994, he was named a member of the Issues Task Force for the first-ever White
House Conference on Travel and Tourism, and was selected by the Secretary of
Commerce to represent the U.S. hospitality industry on a presidential business
development and peacekeeping mission to Northern Ireland. He and his wife, Lynne,
